For the third year in a row, French football side Olympique de Marseille has set a new record for season ticket-holders – 49,000.

The Ligue 1 club is set to celebrate its 125th anniversary this season, which got underway last weekend. OM clocked a convincing 5-1 win away at Stade Brestois 29.

OM plays its home games at the 67,000-capacity Orange Vélodrome, the second largest stadium in the country behind the Stade de France.

In a statement, the club said: “The achievement of this new threshold proves, once again, the fervour, the unifying power of OM and the limitless enthusiasm that the club arouses. Regardless of age, sex, origins, social background, Olympique de Marseille brings together a whole people behind its team. Subscribers, partners, VIPs, Blue & White members, your unwavering passion and love for a club, a team and a city are limitless.

“Never in 125 years of history has Olympique de Marseille had so many subscribers. For this reason, we wanted to say thank you.”

OM will next face Stade de Reims at home on Sunday (August 25).
